The southeastern region of Australia has been severely impacted by flooding following heavy rainfall, causing rivers to overflow. At least 50,000 people are stranded, according to Australian media reports.

Hundreds of individuals in New South Wales required rescue operations, with emergency responders aiding those trapped on rooftops. Thousands are without power, and many roads are impassable due to flooding.

The Australian weather bureau has issued a red alert for parts of New South Wales, with forecasts predicting up to 300mm of rain in the next 24 hours—three times the average for May.
