
In southern Switzerland, five skiers have died. Their bodies were found with the help of a helicopter. The police reported this about the search operation on the Rimpfischhorn, a mountain over 4000 meters high.
Two mountaineers raised the alarm on Saturday around 16:30 after finding abandoned skis near the summit. Rescue services then sent a helicopter to the mountain area, and the victims were quickly spotted from the air. The bodies were recovered by a ground rescue team.
It is unclear what happened to the skiers, but it appears to have been an accident. Swiss authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. The identities of the victims have not yet been established.
According to the Swiss news site Blue News, there was an avalanche. Three bodies were found in snowdrifts on the slightly lower Adlergletscher. The other two bodies were reportedly found 200 meters away.
